# Your independent adjusters hold licences in states whose renewal rules do not agree with each other.

> An independent insurance adjuster is a licensed professional who investigates and settles claims on behalf of an insurer rather than as its employee. The work is licensed state by state, and the licence carries conditions: a bond in some states, an examination, a fixed window to convert to resident status after moving, deadlines for reporting a change of address or name, and a limited period in which a lapsed licence can be revived. Every one of those is a date.

## What Neurobird Independent Insurance Adjuster does

- Hold each licence against the state that issued it, with its own renewal and reporting deadlines.
- Track bonds where a state requires one, and flag them before they expire rather than after.
- Start a clock when an adjuster moves, because residency changes what licence they need.
- Record change of address and name notifications per state, since the deadline runs separately in each.

## How it works

1. **Register** Each licence is recorded with its state, its class and any bond that state requires, so the obligations attached to it are visible rather than assumed.
2. **Watch** Renewal, notification and residency clocks run per state, and warn before they close rather than reporting after they have.
3. **Recover** If a licence does lapse, the revival window is tracked, because reinstatement inside that period can be retroactive rather than a fresh application.

## Industry context

- **$5,000** Washington requires individuals to file a public adjuster's bond in the amount of $5,000. (source: Washington Office of the Insurance Commissioner, https://www.insurance.wa.gov/producers-adjusters/licensing/get-licensed/adjuster-crop-independent-or-public)
- **180 days** An emergency adjuster registration runs for 180 days from the disaster proclamation date, not from the date of submission. - **90 days** A public adjuster licensed in another state who moves must apply within 90 days of establishing legal residence to become a resident licensee. ## Questions

### What is an independent insurance adjuster?

An independent adjuster investigates, evaluates and settles claims on behalf of an insurer under contract, rather than as an employee of that insurer. The role is licensed at state level, and states distinguish between company adjusters, independent adjusters and public adjusters, who represent the insured instead. Some states prohibit the same person acting in more than one of those capacities on the same claim, so the licence class carries real operational meaning.

### What is an emergency adjuster registration?

It is a temporary authorisation that lets adjusters work a declared disaster without going through full licensing first. In Washington the registration is valid for 180 days measured from the disaster proclamation date rather than the day the form was submitted, and if the proclamation is extended beyond that period the adjuster has to reregister. Because the clock starts with the proclamation, an adjuster deployed late in an event has less time remaining than they might assume.

### What happens when an adjuster moves state?

A window opens. In North Carolina a public adjuster licensed in another state who moves must apply within 90 days of establishing legal residence to become a resident licensee. Separately, notification to states where a nonresident licence is held must be made no later than 30 days after a change in the resident licence. Both clocks start with facts on the ground rather than with paperwork.

### Can a lapsed licence be recovered?

Often, inside a limit. North Carolina allows a public adjuster who lets a licence lapse to be issued a new licence within 12 months of the renewal due date, and where reinstatement is requested quickly enough with the required fee, it can be made retroactive to the lapse date. The practical point is that the response window is short and the cost of missing it is a fresh application.

### Is the software available now?

No. It is in development and open for early access. We are building the multi state licence and deadline model with firms that deploy adjusters across state lines.
