What scrap yards and metal haulers actually deal with
Why it stays broken
The gate has a scale system, the truck has an ELD and the office has a spreadsheet, and none of the three knows about a container sitting full at a customer for 45 days. So the asset that costs the most is the one nobody tracks.
A yard running 200 containers with no location record is typically carrying 30 idle cans it is still paying for.
Recycling of scrap also conserves energy because the remelting of scrap requires much less energy than the production of iron or steel products from iron ore.
Neurobird Scrap Metal Recycling Hauling Dispatch Platform
Make the container the record. Everything else, the pull, the ticket, the grade and the payment, hangs off it in order.
- 1Track every container by location, customer and days since placement
- 2Join the driver's pull to the scale ticket and the graded weight without retyping
- 3Settle to the grade and price that applied on the day the load was weighed
- 4Keep hours of service and securement records against the same trip as the ticket
What changes with Neurobird Scrap Metal Recycling Hauling?
The same work, read left to right: how it runs today, and how it runs once the record is in one place.
| Today | With Neurobird Scrap Metal Recycling Hauling |
|---|---|
| Container placement lives on a whiteboard, so nobody can say which cans are sitting full at a customer earning nothing | Track every container by location, customer and days since placement |
| The driver's ticket, the scale weight and the grade the yard actually paid on are three different numbers on three systems | Join the driver's pull to the scale ticket and the graded weight without retyping |
| Prices move weekly and the settlement is calculated against whatever the market was when somebody got to it, not when the load landed | Settle to the grade and price that applied on the day the load was weighed |
Who is this for?
Same pull, three different exposures.
You haul for yards you do not own
You get paid on the trip and blamed for the grade. You need the ticket and the pull joined so a downgrade is somebody's decision on the record.
You place containers and buy material
Your cans are capital sitting at customers. You need day counts and idle reporting before a customer calls for the 7th swap.
You serve manufacturers
Your customer wants monthly tonnage by grade and a clean audit trail. You need statements that come out of the tickets, not a rebuild.

Occupational Safety and Health AdministrationHow does Neurobird Scrap Metal Recycling Hauling work?
Track the can, not the trip
Every container has a location, a customer and a day count. Idle cans surface before the customer calls about a swap.
Join pull to ticket
The driver's pull, the gate weight and the grading decision land on one record, so a disputed settlement is a read rather than an investigation.
Settle to the day
Prices move. Settlement uses the grade and price that applied when the load was weighed, not when somebody got to the paperwork.
The pull, as your dispatcher would run it
A working preview. Tick a load to send it to the scale.
Drag a job onto a dispatcher to assign it.
Scrap metal recycling hauling software questions, answered
Key terms
- What does scrap metal hauling actually involve?
- Scrap metal recycling hauling is the roll off and trailer work that moves ferrous and nonferrous material from generators to a processing yard, weighs it, grades it and settles payment. US apparent consumption of iron and steel scrap was about 63 million tons in 2024, and domestic purchases were valued near $24 billion.
Why is container tracking such a problem?
Because a container earns nothing while it sits. A yard with 200 cans placed and no location record cannot tell which ones are full, which are idle at a closed shop, and which customer has been holding 4 of them for 90 days.
What causes disputes on settlement?
Grade and deduction. The generator sold what they believed was prepared 2 steel, the yard downgraded it for contamination or took a moisture and dirt deduction, and nothing on paper connects the driver's pull to that decision.
Does this replace our scale software?
No. It reads the ticket. Container placement, pull scheduling, driver records and settlement live here, and the scale system keeps doing what it does at the gate.
Why we are building this
Scrap hauling is a container business that most operators run as a trucking business. The truck is visible so it gets the software. The container earns or loses the money and gets a whiteboard.
Then settlement runs on three numbers from three systems, which is why a grade dispute takes an afternoon instead of a minute.
We would rather build this with people who dispatch cans than guess. Tell us how yours runs, and where we have got it wrong.
