Neurobird Waste Recycling MRF Operations in short
- Tie every inbound load to the hauler, the route and the audit that measured its contamination
- Track residue rate by hauler and by day so a contamination charge is evidenced rather than argued
- Hold bale inventory by commodity and grade, from production through to the sold ticket
- 292.4 million Tons of municipal solid waste generated in the United States in 2018, up 23.7 million tons on the previous year. US EPA, national overview facts and figures
- 69 million Tons recycled in 2018, with paper and paperboard accounting for roughly 67 percent of that total and metals about 13 percent. US EPA, national overview facts and figures
- Pricing runs 399 to 1900 US dollars per month across 3 tiers. Early access is free.
What material recovery facilities actually deal with
Why it stays broken
A MRF is a scale house, a sort line and a commodity trading desk sharing one building. The scale software knows weights, the broker knows prices, and the sort line knows quality, but no single system holds all three. So the reconciliation happens at month end, in a spreadsheet, by one person.
Paper and paperboard alone accounted for roughly 67 percent of the 69 million tons recycled in 2018.
Recycling and Composting Trends In percentage of total MSW generation, recycling (including composting) did not exceed 15 percent until 1990.
Neurobird Waste Recycling MRF Operations Dispatch Platform
One record from the weighbridge to the sold bale: inbound load, hauler, audit result, residue, bale produced, buyer and price. The month end reconciliation stops being an exercise in reconstruction.
- 1Tie every inbound load to the hauler, the route and the audit that measured its contamination
- 2Track residue rate by hauler and by day so a contamination charge is evidenced rather than argued
- 3Hold bale inventory by commodity and grade, from production through to the sold ticket
- 4Reconcile tonnage in against tonnage out and residue, on demand rather than at month end
What changes with Neurobird Waste Recycling MRF Operations?
The same work, read left to right: how it runs today, and how it runs once the record is in one place.
| Today | With Neurobird Waste Recycling MRF Operations |
|---|---|
| Inbound tonnage and outbound bales are reconciled in a spreadsheet weeks after the material has gone | Tie every inbound load to the hauler, the route and the audit that measured its contamination |
| Contamination is argued with haulers from memory because the audit that measured it lives on a clipboard | Track residue rate by hauler and by day so a contamination charge is evidenced rather than argued |
| Commodity prices move faster than the paperwork that says which bale was sold at which price | Hold bale inventory by commodity and grade, from production through to the sold ticket |
Who is this for?
The same tonnage, three different problems.
You run one sort line
You need inbound tonnage, residue and bales to reconcile without a spreadsheet rebuilt every month.
You report to a city
The contract has diversion targets. You need the number you report to be traceable to the loads that produced it.
You run several plants
Residue rates and commodity yields only mean something compared across plants on the same definitions.
What the numbers say about recovered material
Federal figures on what is generated, recovered and landfilled, and what that means for a sort line.

How does Neurobird Waste Recycling MRF Operations work?
Weigh it in
Every inbound load carries hauler, route, material and net weight from the weighbridge, without retyping from a ticket.
Audit the load
Sort audits record contamination by material against the load that was audited, so a residue rate belongs to a hauler rather than to a month.
Bale it out
Bales are produced against commodities, held as inventory by grade, and closed out when the sale ticket lands.
Waste recycling mrf operations software questions, answered
Key terms
- What is a material recovery facility?
- It is a plant that receives mixed recyclable material, sorts it mechanically and by hand into commodity streams, and bales those streams for sale. What is left over after sorting is residue, and it goes to disposal. The facility is measured on how much it recovers and how clean the recovered material is.
- What counts as residue?
- Everything that arrives but cannot be recovered and sold: contamination, non target material and material too degraded to market. Residue rate by hauler is the number that decides whether a contamination charge is fair.
Does this replace our scale software?
No. It reads from it. The weighbridge produces weights. This attaches the audit, the residue and the bale to the load that weight belonged to, which is the part the scale never held.
Can it produce the diversion number for a municipal contract?
Yes, and it can show the loads underneath it. A diversion figure that cannot be traced back to inbound tonnage is a figure nobody can defend at contract renewal.

- Georgia EPD, recovered materials processing A state view of how a recovered materials processing facility is defined and what it must notify.
- Alabama ADEM, recycling programme State grant and reporting context for recovery facilities, useful when a contract references it.
